Grant County Middle School educates 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. We want the parents and the community to not just feel welcome, but to be a part of our school.
The goal of Grant County Middle School is to involve students, parents, school staff, and the community in establishing a learning environment that meets the educational, social and emotional needs of all students, so that they reach their highest potential. To accomplish this we have a site based council. The council utilizes the work of committees to function. This allows input from representatives throughout the school community.
We also include community resources in the classroom such as Owen County Electric’s “Touchstone Animal” project, NKU’s “Critters in the Classroom program, Keen’s Engineering classroom project, and inviting weather men such as WLEX’s Bill Meck into the classrooms.
The main academic emphasis school wide is reading. The goal is to diagnose reading deficits with the “Grade Assessment” and treat reading problems with specific instruction. This year we will expand this emphasis to include targeted math instruction. GCMS is also one of the few Middle Schools that have an annual 8th grade trip. This year our destination is Chicago, IL. |
